On April 23, 2013, Joseph F. Fox passed away at the age of 88. Joe was a founding shareholder of the firm when it started in October 1978, and was our first tax specialist. Joe grew up in Chicago, where he graduated from high school and then enlisted and served in the United States Air Force from 1943–1945. He continued his education and was a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago, where he received his law degree and soon thereafter earned his CPA certificate. Upon graduation, he practiced law for the city of Chicago before entering the public accounting profession. Joe became a partner at a national CPA firm before helping start Joseph F. Fox and Associates, which soon became Selden Fox and Associates.
Joe married his wife, Margareta, in October 1952; they resided in Lake Bluff, Illinois, where they raised five boys and two girls. He was a valued member of our firm for 15 years, until he retired in 1993. Upon retirement, Joe retained his ever-sharp intellect. He enjoyed vacationing in upper Wisconsin, where he was always quick to defend his beloved Chicago Bears in Packer territory. He was very devoted to his family, was a consummate professional, and always treated people with respect.
He was a true gentleman, and we are honored to have his name on our door.
