It has now been two and one-half years since COVID-19 prompted the world as we knew it to begin shutting down. Around the time of most spring breaks, classes, after a week or so of strategic assessment, became remote and the concept of meeting remotely by video, largely foreign to the general student and faculty populations, became a thing.  Heck, even college basketball conference tournament games were cancelled midgame! For a time, that became our new normal.

Remote Accounting Recruiting

Figuring out how to attend and conduct class was just the start of the adaptation process. What about team projects to be completed before the end of the semester? Done over Zoom. Internships? Many cancelled while others were subjected to drastically shortened remote study sessions. Campus career fairs and interviews? Again, organized over remote-based software of the institution’s choice. 2021? Repeat from prior year. Not ideal, but it got the job done … to an extent.

Here we are two and one-half years later. We have adapted—some more successfully than others—to the curveballs thrown our way and even have integrated some of these new normals into our routines. We have learned alternatives and gained knowledge and skills we were forced to develop over the course of the pandemic. Now, with these new skills and resources in tow, we strive to get back the aspect of life that was most sorely missed, yet so vital to our personal development and progress—in-person, face to face interaction.

On Campus Recruiting

Starting last spring and building in numbers this fall, more and more institutions are going back to in-person campus events. Some institutions are offering dual in-person and virtual formats to appease the broadest range of participants possible. While Zoom and remote communications software have helped keep things afloat the past two academic years, they are but a bridge to the return of the personal interaction both students and employers have been craving. To be able to offer a hardy handshake and welcoming smile, at the end of the day, will be the light at the end of the tunnel for which we have all been waiting.
