Establish a routine and develop good work habits as soon as possible

Your daily schedule will be vastly different than in college.  Consider what changes are occurring in your life (i.e. schedule, responsibilities, etc.) and make the necessary adjustments that are conducive to success.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions

Mistakes will happen, but asking questions should minimize the number of mistakes.  However, be sure to learn from the mistakes you make.  Asking the same questions repeatedly is typically not looked upon favorably.

Get involved and get to know the people with whom you work

What better way to integrate into the organizational culture?!  Participate in company-wide activities.  Initiate small group gatherings with your peers.  You’ll typically be spending at least eight hours each day with your coworkers, so get to know them as more than just coworkers.

Have a plan for preparing for and taking the CPA exam

Learning a new job will keep your mind occupied as it is.  Determine a game plan that best suits your style of learning.  Budget time around work to study for the exam and set goals to help stay on course … but make sure to incorporate some time for yourself!

Work hard and maintain a positive attitude

Nothing makes a better first impression than demonstrating the desire to work hard and doing so in a positive manner.  Do this and success will often take care of itself.
